Discussion Question #1- Week 13

1). What was useful about the Cause and Effect website reading and exercises?

While reading the Cause Effect Website provided for this question, it was easy to understand and easy to paint a picture in my head about the situation that was explained as an example of a causal argument. As it was stated in this explanation, one of the most important uses for inductive reasoning is to argue causation. This is very true- in all cases, especially in situation where fingers can be pointed to different people.
It was very useful to read this introduction to Causal Arguments to get a clear explanation of what and how exactly cause and effect occur in different situation while arguing causation. It was helpful to somewhat see the arguments mapped out and to be informed in what comes next.
The exercises from this website were very helpful because it gave me a better understanding of how causal arguments and arguing causation can be used in different contexts.

  1. Hey Mary. Your post about the cause and effect website was very clear and easy to read! I felt about the same when I explored the cause and effect website. I especially liked the example of of the court case as well. It was very easy to understand and also helped me “paint a picture” of the example in my head. I also liked the exercises at the end because it really helped clarify the subject being taught. It gave me a better understanding of casual arguments and the key points and outline of what makes a casual argument strong. Anyways, keep up the good work!

  2. Hiii there mmorgan! I have to agree with you that the cause and effect website was easy to understand and comprehend (compared to the book). Your post was straight to the point and was easy to follow. And yes, we can’t just point fingers without having some causal arguments going on between people; that wouldn’t be fair. I really like the example on the website because it was so simple and easy to visualize even though the whole situation seems pretty long to follow. Like you, the website overall heightened my understanding of cause and effect (causal arguments). All in all, great post about the cause and effect website reading and exercises!!!
